I’m Lvlanzishu. From Weixin, Yunnan. Studied finance at Ningxia University. Now I run double-drum road rollers across Europe—mostly France.

When I first landed in Paris two years ago, I thought the biggest challenge would be the language. Turns out, it wasn’t the French accents or the café culture. It was the silence.

No one tells you how lonely it gets when you’re trying to build something across borders—when your bank account is in euros, your suppliers are in China, your family’s in China, and your legal advisor in Paris says, “It depends.”

And then there’s this buzz around “investment migration.”

I saw ads. “Get EU residency in 3 months.” “Passport in 6 weeks.” “Your children’s future secured.”

I wanted to believe it.

But I’m not here to sell you a dream. I’m here to tell you what I learned after talking to too many consultants, reading too many French news reports, and realizing—no one has the right answer. Only better questions.

The Real Cost of “Global Access”

Last week, I walked into a boutique advisory firm on Avenue Marceau—Kouamou Capital, they call themselves. They specialize in African investors. I asked if they’d worked with Chinese entrepreneurs. The advisor smiled politely. “We have a few,” he said. “But each case is unique.”

He didn’t push. Didn’t offer a brochure. He asked:
“What are you protecting? Your capital? Your family’s future? Your ability to move freely?”

I didn’t have a clean answer.

That’s when I started reading French media—not the glossy brochures, but the real stuff.

On March 17, Le Séchos published a survey of 480 European buyers on “Made in France.” Only 18% rated French goods as “highly competitive.” That’s not a failure—it’s a reality check. If you’re investing in France to access European markets, you’re not buying a golden ticket. You’re buying into a system where quality, compliance, and patience matter more than speed.

Meanwhile, Sud Ouest reported diesel hit €2.07/liter. That’s up 20% since the Middle East conflict began. I’m running machinery. Fuel costs aren’t abstract. They’re in my P&L.

And then there’s Shein. The Paris Court of Appeal is deciding whether to suspend their marketplace over illegal products—pedophilic dolls, allegedly. The French aren’t just regulating. They’re defending cultural norms.

So when someone tells you “France is easy for investment migration,” ask: Easy for whom?

For a tech founder with a VC-backed startup? Maybe.
For a heavy equipment trader from Yunnan trying to rent a warehouse in Lyon? Not so much.

There’s no “best program.” There’s only what fits your life.

What I Did Instead

I didn’t sign with any advisor.

Instead, I did three things:

  1. I read the French legal code myself.
Not the English summaries. Not the marketing pages. I used Google Translate to read the Code de la sécurité intérieure on the official French government portal. I was looking for “investor residence permit” (Titre de séjour pour investisseur). What I found? It’s not called that. It’s “Titre de séjour pluriannuel pour investisseur étranger.” The requirements? You must create at least 3 jobs, invest €300,000+ in a French company, and prove your funds are clean. No shortcuts. No “fast-track.” Just paperwork.

  2. I asked French small business owners.
Not consultants. Not lawyers. The guy who runs the auto parts shop in Saint-Denis. The woman who imports Chinese tools through Marseille. I bought them coffee. Asked: “If you were starting over, would you go for a Golden Visa?”

One said: “I did. Got my card. Then realized I couldn’t leave France for more than 10 months without losing it. My wife couldn’t work. My kid’s school fees doubled. I sold the business and went back to Morocco.”

    Another: “I didn’t get a visa. I got a 10-year resident card through marriage. It’s slower. But it’s real.”

  3. I checked the French Ministry of the Interior’s website.
Not third-party blogs. Not LinkedIn ads. I went to service-public.fr and searched “investisseur étranger.” The official page lists 4 pathways. All require proof of funds, tax compliance, and a business plan approved by the local chamber of commerce.

No mention of Caribbean citizenship. No “EU passport in 6 months.” Just slow, bureaucratic, paper-heavy processes.

And yet—this is what makes it trustworthy.

You don’t buy a visa. You earn a place.

📌 FAQ: What I Wish I Knew Earlier

Q1: Can I get French residency just by buying property?

A: Not directly. Buying property doesn’t grant residency. But if you use it as the base for a business (e.g., opening a warehouse, hiring staff), you might qualify under the “investor residence permit” pathway.

  • Steps:
    1. Register a French company (SARL or SAS).
    2. Deposit €300,000+ in a French bank.
    3. Submit a business plan to the CCI (Chambre de Commerce et d’Industrie).
    4. Apply at the local prefecture with proof of funds, tax ID, and accommodation.
  • Key Points:
    • You must show job creation (minimum 3 positions).
    • Property alone is not sufficient.
    • Processing time: 6–12 months.
    • Always confirm with your local prefecture—requirements vary by region.

Q2: Is the “Golden Visa” in Portugal or Greece better than France?

A: Maybe—if your goal is flexibility, not permanence.

  • Portugal’s D7/D8: Requires passive income or remote work visa. No job creation.
  • Greece’s Golden Visa: €250,000 property purchase. Fast. No language requirement.
  • France: Higher investment. Slower. But access to EU labor market and public services.
  • Key Points:
    • France doesn’t offer a “Golden Visa” label—but its investor permit is legally stronger.
    • Portugal is easier to get. France is harder to keep.
    • If you plan to live in Europe long-term, France’s residency leads to citizenship in 5 years. Portugal takes 5 years too—but requires language tests and civic exams.
    • “Better” depends on whether you want to live or just have access.

Q3: Should I trust advisors like Kouamou Capital?

A: I met them. They’re professional. But they’re not magic.

  • Steps to vet any advisor:
    1. Check if they’re listed on the French Bar Association’s registry (Ordre des Avocats).
    2. Ask for client references—real names, not testimonials.
    3. Ask: “What’s the worst-case scenario if my application is denied?”
    4. Never pay more than 20% upfront.
  • Key Points:
    • No reputable advisor guarantees approval.
    • If they say “we have a 98% success rate,” walk away.
    • The French government doesn’t outsource immigration decisions.
    • Their role is to help you prepare—not to bypass the law.

Final Thoughts: I’m Still Here

I didn’t get a passport. I didn’t “unlock global access.”

But I did something quieter.

I built a small warehouse in Lyon. Hired two local mechanics. Learned to say “Bonjour, comment ça va?” without sounding like a tourist.

I still get lonely. Some nights, I call my dad in Yunnan. He doesn’t understand what I do. But he says: “Keep going. Slow is steady.”

If you’re reading this because you’re tired of flashy promises, you’re not alone.

The truth isn’t in the ads.

It’s in the French bureaucracy. In the diesel prices. In the Shein court case. In the silence between what’s promised and what’s possible.

If you’re in France—whether you’re just visiting or trying to stay—know this:

You don’t need a visa to belong.
You need patience.
You need honesty.
And you need people who’ve been there.
